As I mentioned in my lens comparison here https://randomibis.wordpress.com/2013/12/20/nikon-kit-lens-18-55mm-vr-vs-50mm-f1-8/ f1.8 is not an ideal setting for landscape photography, but it can have some use.
The reason why I like this picture is that when I first took it with an infinity focus f9 it was extremely flat and boring. When I had a second take at it at f1.8 I really liked the much narrower depth of field that was able to isolate the front rocks. For that pic I used the 50mm.
What I’ve learned from that pic is that you should never think that some settings are “universally right”, such as: Landscape Photography -> infinity focus and f8 or more.
My personal challenge will be to find some situation where I can use this kind of settings again.
