I’ve been to many Aquariums over the course of my life, but the one in Kenting is a place that I’ll never forget. I’ve uploaded the picture on the 31st of January, exactly 1 year and 1 month from the day I went there.
The museum itself is very beautiful and located near Kenting, one of the most famous beaches in Taiwan. It’s one of the few places where you can find almost-naked girls nearly all year long, but as you can tell from that picture I was more interested in the giant flying squid of doom.
You can simply walk in or you have the opportunity to book a guided tour that will take you through the museum and on the beach, explaining the ecosystem that you can find in Taiwan. Kenting is on the West side of Taiwan, so the beach behind the museum is a pretty nice place if you’re looking for a sunset.
But what sets this museum apart is the Ultimate Tour of Destiny, which gives you the opportunity to sleep with the fishes, Well, next to them.
It’s a really cool experience, and what I enjoyed the most is the fact that you get the chance to stay in the museum after closing time, so you can explore it and see how marine life behaves during the night. All the plants, crustaceans and different varieties of fish behave in completely different ways, and it’s something that I’ve never experienced in any other museum.
Since spending the night sleeping in the museum means that you’ll be there guest for almost 24 hours, there’s a restaurant service, and if you’re afraid that food in a museum could be in small quantity or poor quality, fear not.
A humongous amount of all you-can-eat, both for dinner and breakfast. That was pretty great and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality, all the dishes that I had the chance to try were pretty good.
Someone on that day decided to make a very special surprise to his girlfriend:
The diver from the museum entered the pool and everyone expected some kind of demo with the fish, but we soon realized that there was something else behind it. The guy proposed right there in front of all the visitors and a bunch of fish. It worked!
If you’re planning a trip around Kenting make sure to stop by the museum, and I highly suggest to spend the night there if you want to enjoy a really special experience! If you book in advance you can choose where to sleep: near the Beluga, by the sharks or in the cold areas dedicated to the seals and many others.
On a side note: the south of Taiwan has the best fruit of the whole island. If you get to the museum by car you’ll find many fruit stands by the side of the road, selling whatever seasonal fruit is available. Don’t miss the occasion of getting some awesome, fresh fruit at a very affordable price!
